Colourful costumes, the beat of dandiya sticks, and the sounds of traditional Indian folk music will all be part of the fun and enjoyment of the ‘Dandiya Dance’ evening at The Indian Club on Thursday 21st October. From 7:30 pm onwards, the Club’s Sanskar Hall will reverberate to the melodic combination of time-honoured Dandiya dance music and more up-to-date chart classics, all expertly ‘spun’ by DJ Andy. With the aid of well-orchestrated steps and using their dandiya sticks as ‘swords’, individuals, couples and families will act out the traditional Dandiya Raas, a dance from Indian mythology that pits ‘good’ against ‘evil’, before ‘letting their hair down a bit to ‘boogy’ along to a repertoire of more modern hits.
‘It is really good to see the Indian Club’s entertainment program back in full swing, we have missed this over the last 18 months; the Dandiya celebration is usually one of the highpoints of our year and I hope there will be a big turnout on Thursday evening, with all our members, families and guests mixing together and having a great time,” commented Mr. Stalin Joseph, President of the Indian Club. The ‘Dandiya Dance’ evening is free entry for all Indian Club members and their families, with a 1BD cover charge per head for non-members. Further details on ‘Dandiya Dance’ can be obtained from Mr. Senthil Kumar, the Indian Club’s Assistant Entertainment Secretary, on 3671 1368 or through the Indian Club reception on 1725 3157.
