The Indian home ministry has announced the extension of the nationwide lockdown for two more weeks. MHA also issued guidelines to regulate different activities in this period. India will now be under lockdown till May 17.
The government claims the lockdown significantly helped contain the virus outbreak, while the experts remain worried about India’s rising case count. The country has over 33,000 positive Covid-19 cases and more than 1,100 deaths.
However, experts are also concerned about the economic pain caused by the lockdown, which has affected millions. Besides relaxed lockdown rules for green zones, there are talks of a massive credit relief package for small businesses.
