The Services Committee at the Council of Representatives has affirmed the major patriotic role played by the national press in enlightening the public and contributing to the comprehensive development march, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the supporter of the freedom of opinion and expression, as well as the press.
In a statement marking the Bahrain Press Day, observed every May 7, the committee, commended the efforts of the government, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to activate the role of the press and pave the way for it to undertake its tasks and responsibilities with professionalism.
The panel hailed the rich record of the Bahraini press, stressing the need to enact a modern and enlightened press law during the next legislative session to further support and motivate press institutions and the Bahrain Journalists’ Association (BJA), given their important national role, and in order to keep abreast of the technological and digital developments the world is currently witnessing.
