Manama: President of the Sustainable Energy Authority (SEA) Dr. Abdul Hussain bin Ali Mirza participated in the opening of the 12th session of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Assembly, which was held virtually.
Dr. Mirza noted Bahrain’s announcement in the UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow (COP26) about the adoption of the national goal to reach zero carbon neutrality by 2060, and the Kingdom’s interim and short-term goals to comply with this announcement.
He said that Bahrain was able at the end of the year 2021 to achieve the national renewable energy goals set for 2025, which is to increase the share of renewable energy resources in the total energy mix by 5%, i.e. four years ahead of the specified date.
Dr. Mirza highlighted Bahrain’s strategies related to the sustainability of energy resources, and the most prominent initiatives to encourage investments in renewable energy projects and increase the share of renewable energy resources in the total energy mix.
SEA president highlighted the importance of renewable energy to support efforts to address disasters and maintain development, which is reflected in combating the coronavirus pandemic. Given the need to intensify efforts to increase the share of renewable and clean energy resources to support the important basic sectors, without affecting the environment.
He thanked in his speech the efforts of The National Taskforce for Combating the Coronavirus (COVID-19) headed by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa Crown Prince, Prime Minister.
