The Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS), in collaboration with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, conducted a remote workshop on “How to create media reports on press, TV and social media.” The purpose was to build volunteers’ capacities and develop their skills in highlighting human stories, relief projects, and humanitarian relief programs.
The workshop aimed at inspiring volunteers to produce informative media reports that emphasize the role and status of the humanitarian purpose of Red Crescent in the community as part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, and its efforts to extend aid to the needy, whether at the health, social, relief or development levels.
The workshop addressed the significance of creating media reports, particularly in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, and strengthening awareness among diverse segments of society of the precautionary measures that must be adhered to prevent this virus and break its chain of transmission, in addition to provide the most recent information, developments, and statistics about it.
The Director and Media personality Wafaa Hussein spoke in the workshop, and the discussions focused on what is called “mobile journalism.” Technical advice was provided on how to approach the idea of the report, visualizing the form of the story and the scenes to be photographed, and assuring the high quality of lighting, proper equipment, in addition to a presentation of some of the applications used widely in this type of modern press.
“Mobile journalism embodies an emerging contemporary form of media related to storytelling, where journalists use smartphones and tablets to collect, edit, and publish news,” Hussien said.
The workshop emphasized the concept of “Human Media,” which means reaching out to the entities involved in the humanitarian issue and its relevant subjects. This includes news and reports about disasters and crisis areas and problems related to it such as displacement and asylum, and the intensity of their effects on people, along with the challenges that relate to poverty, destitution, and others.The workshop also provided reports packed with all the associated information and numbers, and the initiatives that offers development solutions to address these pressing issues.
The workshop also asserted the activation of the modern media to demonstrate the achievements, especially involving humanitarian assistance, which contributes to winning the broadest imaginable segment of society members, following up events and submitting reports to organizations and bodies to identify human needs, focusing on the aspect of tolerance and accepting the other, especially concerning problems of displacement and asylum.
