Tokyo : China have become the first Olympic champions in the women’s 500m double canoe, taking gold over the Ukraine, said dpa international.
The pair of Xu Shixiao and Sun Mengya, crossed the line in 1 minute 55.495 seconds in the discipline’s Olympic debut.
The defending world champions set an Olympic best time in the event, and won China’s first medal in a women’s canoe sprint event.
Ukaraine’s Liudmyla Luzan and Anastasiia Chetverikova took silver, while Canada’s Laurence Vincent-Lapointe and Katie Vincent claimed bronze.
