Manama: A conference-debate to celebrate the environment and raise awareness on current environmental issues will be organized by the French embassy in Bahrain on September 18.

The “Eco-friendly consumption” conference will be followed by the screening of the latest film by director Yann Arthus Bertrand, “Legacy”, at the Alliance Française.

“The objective of this conference is to present the impact of our overconsumption of food and clothing before giving you tools to improve our footprint on a daily basis,” the embassy said in a statement.

“An eco-responsible consumer is one who practices gestures in order to limit his ecological footprint and his impact on the environment. Becoming eco-responsible is a process whose objective is to preserve the environment.”

The list of participants includes Pierre Sfeir, Associated Director for UNANIME, an active member of the LEED Green building Council, working on regional sustainable urban solutions specially in developing urban sustainable farming.

Shereen Fekri is a co-founder at ‘The Undressed Company’, a platform that aims to normalize sustainable fashion practises for the GCC consumer. The company aims to achieve this by educating a community that is ready to evolve and reform an industry that is on the cusp of positive change.

Dr Sumaya Yusuf is Chairperson of Natural Resources and Environmental Department and Assistant Professor of Environmental Engineering, College of Graduate Studies, at the Arabian Gulf University.

She has been selected as one of the most three women influencers in the Middle East in the field of Science and Technology for 2020 by Women News Agency, 2021.

Ahmed Alkuwaiti is Chief Executive officer at Hefts Al Neama Society AKA Bahrain Food bank AKA Conserving Bounties Society (CBS), a non-profit, voluntary association licensed by the Ministry of Social Development and specializes in collecting and packaging surplus food from hotels, restaurants, consumer markets and various special events according to the health standards adopted in the Kingdom

The CBS redistributes such food to families, expatriate workers and individuals in need throughout Bahrain.

The movie “Legacy” is a powerful cry from the heart, the embassy said.

“Ten years after ‘Home’, Yann Arthus-Bertrand shares a sensitive and radical vision of our world, which he has seen deteriorate over the course of a generation, and reveals a planet in pain, a disoriented humanity incapable of taking seriously the threat that weighs on it and on all living beings. For the director, it is urgent: everyone can and must make strong gestures for the planet and the future of our children.”

The embassy said that the event requires online registration and that, due to Covid-19 restrictions, it is open to fully vaccinated people only.
