The Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) and the Bahrain Swimming Association signed a cooperation agreement to train 10,000 children and youth within a year.

This comes as part of BOC’e keenness to adopt various initiatives and programs aimed at improving sports.

The agreement was signed by BOC Secretary-General Faris Al Kooheji, and by the association’s Chairman of the Board of Directors Counselor Dr.  Mohammed Mujbel.

Al Kooheji expressed his pride at signing this agreement, noting that this comes in line with the vision of His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Vice President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS) , President of the General Sports Authority  (GSA) and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC), to adopt various sports programs aimed at developing various sports, in particular Olympic Games.

“Swimming is considered one of the main Olympic sports, and it is one of the sports encouraged by the Islamic religion along with both shooting and horse riding,” he said.

The secretary-general stressed that training children and youth for swimming in a largest number will contribute to discovering a number of talents capable of representing the national teams.

He stressed that this program will reduce the incidence of drowning among this age group, pointing out that this initiative was implemented in France by training 5,000 children in one year.

“ We decided to train 10,000 children and youth in Bahrain, and we see this as a challenge that we are able to achieve,” Al Kooheji said.

He expressed his appreciation to the Bahrain Swimming Association for their efforts and fast response to implement the initiative.

Dr. Mujbil expressed his gratitude to HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad, for his unlimited support to the association, which had the greatest impact in achieving many accomplishments.

He noted the association readiness to train all these children , expressing his pride in this fruitful and positive partnership.
