New York : The King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Coexistence and “This is Bahrain” Society participated in the 77th session of the UN General Assembly in New York through a session on the role of education in promoting peaceful coexistence.
On the sidelines of the session, the King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Coexistence signed an agreement with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) to boost cooperation between both sides in the research and training field.
On this occasion, Board of Trustees Chairman of the King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Coexistence, Shaikh Dr Khalid bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, underlined the pivotal role of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa in fostering the values of tolerance and peaceful coexistence. He pointed out, in this regard, the Declaration of Bahrain which received high international acclaim. He added that the King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Coexistence has launched many programmes and initiatives which embody the vision of HM the King, in addition to opening channels of cooperation with the most prestigious international universities like Oxford, Cambridge and Sapienza so as to groom a generation of youngsters who believe in the principle of coexistence, tolerance and acceptance of the other.
For her part, Deputy Chairperson of the King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Coexistence and President of “This is Bahrain” Society, Betsy Mathieson, praised cooperation between the King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Coexistence and UNITRA. She stressed that the signing of the agreement will open broader prospects to train the youth. She described the agreement as a new international achievement added to the centre’s efforts to promote the vision of HM the King on spreading the principles of tolerance and peaceful coexistence through fighting illiteracy.
