Manama: Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force (BDF), Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, has extended deepest congratulations to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Supreme Commander, and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and Prime Minister, on the success of the BDF’s military athletics team in bagging eight medals, including four gold, two silver and two bronze ones.
The military athletics team won the medals during the men’s 10-km race, the women’s 8-km race, and the relay race of the 58th World Military Cross-country Championships 2022, hosted recently by Portugal, with the participation of 26 countries.
The BDF men’s team outperformed strong countries such as Kenya, which ranked second, and Algeria, which came third. In the relay race, the national military team outperformed Kenya, which came second, and Italy which clinched the third place.
The commander-in-chief affirmed that the landmark achievement of the military team is the fruitful outcome of HM the King’s unwavering support for Bahraini athletes, and keenness to encourage them while participating in external sporting events.
The BDF chief expressed pride in the global achievement, noting that the exploit reflects the outstanding performance of the BDF’s athletes, which contributed to raising the kingdom’s tally to eight medals during the world military sports event.
