Manama : The Kingdom of Bahrain ranked second in the Arab World and 34th globally in the World Bank’s 2023 Logistics Performance Index.

The index provides a benchmarking tool to help countries identify the challenges and opportunities they face in their performance on trade logistics.

These results affirm the Kingdom of Bahrain’s commitment to solidify the growth of the logistical sector through the implementation of robust strategies and initiatives.

The Kingdom launched the Logistics Services Sector Strategy, as part of its wide-ranging Economic Recovery Plan, which is designed to capitalize on Bahrain’s strategic geographic location, while uplifting logistical capacity across several services and expanding offerings to position the Kingdom as one of the top global destinations for logistic services.

The index recorded the Kingdom’s improved results across all six indicators. The most notable improvement was in the ‘Timeliness’ indicator which saw the Kingdom advance 58 spots to rank 10th globally out of 139 countries, despite global supply chain disruptions.

This indicator measures the frequency with which shipments reach their consignees, and the recorded improvement comes as a result of the government’s efforts to enhance the efficiency of port operations, with trucks needing less than 30 minutes in the container terminal, along with increased gantry cranes and quay container processing capacities.

The Kingdom of Bahrain also recorded an improvement in the ‘Infrastructure’ indicator by 38 spots, ranking 30th globally, due to efforts in the development of facilities and logistical trade lines.

Bahrain also ranked 31st globally in the ‘Customs’ indicator advancing 32 spots. This indicator measures the efficiency of customs and border management clearance.

The Kingdom of Bahrain invested in upgrading its customs clearing processes through the development of electronic operating systems, including the ‘Truck Management System’ and the ‘Ofoq 2 system’, through the application of artificial intelligence technologies and blockchain.
