The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has made many achievements towards empowering women in the labor market, and the General Authority of Civil Aviation was one of the entities that enabled Saudi women to work in the civil aviation sector, this was at all levels and leaderships, and technical and administrative positions. This comes as a belief in the role of women in developing and strengthening the aviation sector, which has become a major role in all areas in line with the Vision 2030, and the authority took upon itself the empowerment of Saudi women in several fields, including the profession of air monitoring.
The authority is also proud of the capabilities and skills of its air traffic controllers, as the localization of the air traffic control profession in the Kingdom has reached 100%.
Despite the steady growth in air traffic in the Kingdom’s airports and airspace year after year, the General Authority of Civil Aviation is keen to achieve a safe atmosphere in accordance with the most accurate international safety standards, as well building a modern system with advanced modern services in the field of air transport, and the number of female air traffic controllers in the Kingdom has reached 26 Saudi air monitoring, who have been educated and trained in the Saudi Civil Aviation Academy, which is one of the specialized academies in this field and holds much international accreditations.
A number of Saudi female air traffic controllers talked about their start in obtaining a license for this profession, and their practical and effective roles in this important profession to clarify the role of women in the civil aviation system in the Kingdom.
Among those models working in the air traffic control profession, Reem Abdullah, who explained that the reason for entering the aviation field is the passion and challenge that such sensitive jobs demand, and said, “We are graduates from the first batch of work in the air traffic profession”.
“When you have a passion for work, everything will be easy and enjoyable, and the profession of air traffic control is created for everyone, and with the desire and sense of high responsibility, we have managed air traffic,” she added.
Employee Rowan Hubeishi (air traffic controller) expressed her great happiness in working in the field of civil aviation, and said: “I think that the field of civil aviation is a very interesting area and once you enter it, it is difficult to do any other job.
She also mentioned that working in the profession of air traffic control is so beautiful that sometimes we do not want to go out and want to continue to do this interesting job, thank Allah that we have found appropriate and strong training and the biggest evidence of this is that we are a full batch after graduation today and do our work to the fullest and without any problem. This is the result of the distinguished training we have received, indicating that the reality of Saudi woman is the best evidence that she can work in all fields and perform her work to the fullest.
In turn, Shahad Faisal Zareer, an air traffic controller under training, said that the name (air traffic controller) called her to enter this vital field, and after knowing the details of the profession, she had a great passion for working in the civil aviation sector, adding, “During the training I found out that this job is enjoyable and unconventional and it is a challenge for me to work in this important job”.
