Manama : Shura Council member, Dr. Mansour Mohammed Sarhan praised the issuance of the Decree-Law amending the alternative penalties law which enables the competent party at the Interior Ministry to request the judge to replace the original sentence before the start of its execution with an alternative penalty.

The Shura Council member described the issuance of the decree as a quality change in the reform march initiated by HM the King since his accession to the throne.

He added the decree will also contribute to releasing the inmates who meet the conditions, stressing that extending the alternative penalties will further develop the legal system in the kingdom.

The Shura Council member said the initiatives and efforts made by the government, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, stand as a clear evidence that Bahrain is the state of law and institutions and impartial judiciary.

He noted that the statistics revealed by the Interior Minister that around 3511 inmates have benefited from the alternative sentencing law since its issuance in 2017 show success of the comprehensive royal reform project in achieving its goals and protecting the social texture.

The Shura Council member praised the Law on Restorative Justice for Children and their Protection from Maltreatment, stressing its importance and pointing out the high acclaim it received from the lawmen and members of the Bahraini society.
