Nokia rolled out on Tuesday new 5G stand-alone wireless networks for industrial clients and unveiled an order to build one for mining technology firm Sandvik at its site in Tampere, Finland. “We’re paving the way to accelerate digitalization in the most demanding of use cases such as automotive manufacturing, where cloud, robotics and autonomous machine operations create mission-critical demands for reliable low latency and high data rates,” said Raghav Sahgal, head of Nokia’s Enterprise unit. Mobile technologies’ role in manufacturing industries is growing fast and, with stand-alone networks, industrial clients are becoming independent in their onsite connection needs.
Ebay has agreed to sell its classified ads business to Norwegian group Adevinta in a cash share deal worth $9.2 billion, the companies said on Tuesday. Ebay will receive $2.5 billion in cash and 540 million shares of Adevinta, making it the largest shareholder with a 44% stake of the pro forma company, they said. The transaction is expected to close by the first quarter of 2021.
Self-driving startup Aurora is expanding testing and development of its vehicles to Dallas-Fort Worth Area in Texas, the company said on Monday. The company, which is already testing its vehicles in the San Francisco Bay Area and Pittsburgh, said it will test its fleet of Pacificas and Class 8 trucks in Texas. Last June, Aurora raised more than $600 million in Series B funding which included investment from Hyundai Motor Co and Kia Motors Corp. Oxford University’s experimental coronavirus vaccine is safe and generated a strong immune response in the people who volunteered to help trial it, researchers have said, raising hopes it could contribute to ending the pandemic. The union representing pilots at Delta Air Lines said Monday that 2,235 pilots volunteered for an early departure package ahead of a Sunday deadline. In May, Delta and the Air Line Pilots Association said they were working to avoid furloughs of roughly 2,300 pilots. On Friday, Delta told pilots it would avoid furloughs if they agreed to reduced guaranteed minimum pay, according to a memo seen by Reuters. As of Friday, more than 1,700 pilots had volunteered, Delta said.
