The suspension of prayers in mosques and mass worship would continue until the number of infections is reduced as decided by medical authorities, according to the Supreme Council for Islam Affairs (SCIA). The Council added that people should continue to rise to the highest levels of responsibility and take the health measures seriously for the sake of their families and their country in order to overcome the pandemic. The suspension of prayers came into action in March, as part of the kingdom’s measures to slow the spread of the coronavirus outbreak.

Saudi Arabia has reported 2,671 new cases and 42 deaths from coronavirus, taking the total cases to 240,474. The death toll raised to 2,325 after reporting the new deaths. Air strikes on Yemen’s northern province of al-Jawf killed at least seven civilians on Wednesday, residents and an official from the Houthi movement said. The Houthi health ministry spokesman said in a Twitter post that air strikes by a Saudi-led coalition hit residential houses, killing nine people including two children. Two residents told Reuters that seven people had been killed. There was no immediate comment from the coalition which has been battling Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi movement for more than five years.
