Red Bull were looking set for a big haul of points from the 2022 season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix. But then it all started to go wrong three laps from the end, as first Max Verstappen, then Sergio Perez, retired from the race. Reigning champion Verstappen had fought valiantly with eventual winner Charles Leclerc throughout much of the race, but seemed to be settling for second when he started to complain of both steering and power unit issues on his Red Bull RB18. Passed by third-placed Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari on Lap 54 of 57 – who had nearly overtaken the ailing…
Charles Leclerc won a blockbuster 2022 Bahrain Grand Prix as Carlos Sainz backed up a Ferrari one-two – as Red Bull suffered a double DNF to give Lewis Hamilton the final podium place in a stunning start to the season. Verstappen, starting P2, attempted to undercut Ferrari’s pole-sitter Leclerc on Lap 15, cutting down what was a 3.5s deficit to just 0.35s when Leclerc emerged in the lead on Lap 16. That triggered a three-lap box-office bout for the lead, Leclerc hanging on when Verstappen locked up into Turn 1 on Lap 19. The second round of pit stops, again…
Alpine junior Victor Martins got his Formula 3 title challenge off to the ideal start in the opening Feature Race of the Formula 3 campaign, with the French driver beating Ferrari junior Arthur Leclerc and ART Grand Prix’s Gregoire Saucy. After starting from third on the grid, Martins took second from Trident’s Roman Stanek during an early Safety Car restart. Eying first, the Frenchman had to remain patient in the following laps, but kept close to the rear of Van Amersfoort Racing rookie Franco Colapinto, who led the majority of the race after starting from pole. Martins made his move…
Sauber Academy driver Theo Pourchaire won a frenetic first Feature Race of the season in Sakhir, beating Red Bull Junior Team drivers Liam Lawson – who started from sixth – and Juri Vips, who had to recover from 12th after a slow pit stop. Starting from third, Vips had initially stormed ahead of Pourchaire and polesitter Jack Doohan when the lights went out, as those around him struggled to switch on the hard Pirelli tyres. The Estonian’s slow stop briefly gifted P1 back to Doohan, but the Alpine junior got caught in a scuffle with Pourchaire on his way out…
In Formula 1, senior staff are constantly walking a tightrope, making the key decisions that could make the difference between success on track and failure. Dave Robson, Head of Vehicle Performance at Williams, reveals his pressure points… A Formula 1 team is always under pressure to extract the maximum performance from the tools to hand – but for the individuals within the team, the times at which they feel the heaviest load varies from job to job: an engine kitter isn’t busy at the same time as a fuel technician, who doesn’t work to the same tempo as a front-end…
A new Formula 1 season gets under way at the Bahrain Grand Prix, with new regulations adding to the unknowns of how racing will pan out. Ahead of today’s season-opener at the Bahrain International Circuit, we take a look at the different strategies that the teams might choose. What’s the quickest strategy? In many ways, it’s a more simple equation this year for the teams, as the tyre they qualify on no longer has any bearing on the compound they start the race on. The previous rule of starting the race on your Q2 tyres – if you qualify in…

Abnother 10 people were sent to nearby hospitals with life-threatening injuries and 27 were “slightly injured,” Deputy Crown Prosecutor Damien Verheyen said. As a group of carnival-goers were marching towards the town center, “a car came from the back at high speed and crashed into group, pulverized a large number of people, continuing its way before stopping a little further down,” La Louvière mayor Jacques Gobert told reporters. The two…
With the fallout from last year’s epic season finale beginning to dissipate, Lewis Hamilton’s eyes are fixed on the new era and a fresh challenge for a record-breaking eighth crown… Formula 1 is a ravenous beast. No sooner has the flag fallen on a race than attention turns to the next event. This weekend’s hero is the next Sunday’s zero. And no sooner has one season ended than the focus switches sharply to the next. And while the repercussions of last season’s title decider are likely to ripple through the sport for some time, the immediate heat of the explosive…
