Bahrain : A defendant accused of offending a candidate running in the parliamentary elections in the Northern Governorate has been remanded in custody for seven days pending investigation. The Electoral Crime Investigation Committee, set up by the Public Prosecutor, leveled the  counts of charges against the defendant and referred him to stand an urgent trial. Steve Bannon, a former chief strategist for Donald Trump, was sentenced to four months in prison on Friday after he was convicted of contempt of Congress for failing to comply with a subpoena related to a US House of Representatives investigation into the January 6 insurrection. Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday declared martial law in the four regions it had annexed last month from Ukraine – Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia. The law allows temporary resettlement of residents to ‘safer locations’ and restriction on movement in Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia. Putin had signed constitutional laws on October 5 to make these regions parts of Russia following the results of referendums Russia held in these areas, which together make up for 15% of Ukraine’s territory.
