WASHINGTON : The Biden administration is calling on Congress to expand authority for federal and local governments to take action to counter the nefarious use in the U.S. of drones, which are becoming a growing security concern and nuisance. The White House on Monday released an action plan that calls for expanding the number of agencies that can track and monitor drones flying in their airspace. A Japanese woman believed to have been the world’s oldest person has died aged 119, died of Kane Tanaka. Born on Jan. 2, 1903 – the year of the Wright Brothers’ first controlled flight of their motor-driven airplane – Tanaka was confirmed by Guinness World Records in 2019 as the oldest living person. She died of old age at a hospital in Fukuoka city, western Japan, on April 19, NHK said. During her life, she had been partial to chocolate and fizzy drinks, NHK said.
LONDON : The British government says it believes 15,000 Russian troops have been killed in Ukraine since Moscow launched its invasion two months ago. Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said 25% of the Russian combat units sent to Ukraine “have been rendered not combat effective,” and Russia had lost more than 2,000 armored vehicles and more than 60 helicopters and fighter planes. Russia has acknowledged 1,351 military casualties. Wallace said Russia had failed in most of its military objectives so far. Bahrain : Civil Service Bureau (CSB) said that the total number of temporary employees in ministries and government agencies under the Civil Service Law is 87 in a number of different government agencies. The CSB said that the temporary employee’s contract renewal or shifting to permeant employment is referred to the government agency . This comes in accordance with the justifications of job vacancies available in the organizational structure and financial approval according to CSB regulations. Bahrain : His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, today issued a circular on the upcoming Labour Day and Eid Al-Fitr holidays. According to the circular, ministries and all other public institutions will close on Sunday, 1 May 2022, marking Labour Day. The circular also stipulates that the Kingdom’s ministries and public institutions will close on the day of Eid Al Fitr and the two days that follow. If any of the three Eid days coincides with an official holiday, an extra day will be given in lieu, the circular added.
