A pupil in Ajman died on Tuesday after being run over by a school bus, police said. Officers said Sheikha Hassan, 12, got off the bus near her home in the Hamidiya area and was then run over and sustained fatal head injuries. The incident took place at about 3:48pm as she returned home from Umm Ammar School. “The bus driver moved [drove] forward without paying attention and ran over her, causing her death,” Ajman Police said on Wednesday in a post on its social media channels. New Zealand scientists have discovered a rare baby ghost shark, a little-known species of fish that lives in the shadowy depths of the ocean. Ghost sharks – also known as chimaera – are rarely spotted, and sightings of their young are even more uncommon. The newly-hatched shark was collected at a depth of about 1.2km (0.7 miles) underwater near the South Island. Scientists say the find deepens understanding of the juvenile stage of the species. A Russian attack on Ukraine is “still very much a possibility” and the human cost would be “immense”, US President Joe Biden has said. Ottawa Police Chief Peter Sloly has resigned after weeks of criticism for his handling of anti-vaccine mandate protests that have paralysed the city. Protesters have occupied the centre of Canada’s capital for 19 days, halting traffic and enraging residents. The EU must keep the countries of the Sahel orientated towards the bloc, a top European diplomat has said, amid widespread signs that the relationship between Brussels and some regional capitals is fraying. Emanuela Del Re, the EU’s special representative for the Sahel, said countries in the region looked to the bloc as a “model” in terms of its social achievements, system of governance and welfare. Kuwait : The Kuwaiti cabinet has abolished the majority of coronavirus restrictions, signaling the start of a new era and approach in dealing with the pandemic.
