Washington: The U.S. trade deficit increased to a record $73.3 billion in August as a small gain in exports was swamped by a much larger increase in imports, said AP. The Commerce Department reported Tuesday that the monthly trade deficit increased 4.2% in August, rising to an all-time high, surpassing the previous record of $73.2 billion set in June. Abu Dhabi : The United Arab Emirates on Tuesday announced plans to send a probe to land on an asteroid between Mars and Jupiter to collect data on the origins of the universe, the latest project in the country’s ambitious space program. Manama: The Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB) announces that the monthly issue of the short-term Islamic leasing bonds, Sukuk Al-Ijara, has been oversubscribed by 400%. Subscriptions worth BD 104 million were received for the BD 26 million issue, which carries a maturity of 182 days. The expected return on the issue, which begins on October 7 and matures on April 7, 2022, is 1.43% compared to 1.49% of the previous issue on September 9. The Sukuk Al-Ijara are issued by the CBB on behalf of the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
