Bahrain :   Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades will arrive tomorrow, Sunday 12, on an official visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain, announced the Royal Court. During the visit, the Cypriot president will hold talks with His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa on bilateral relations binding the two friendly countries, in addition to regional and international developments. In a statement today, the Royal Court welcomed President Anastasiades, and the accompanying delegation, wishing him a good stay in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Bahrain : A regional economic conference will be open on Monday (September 13) under the patronage of Industry, Commerce and Tourism Minister Zayed bin Rashid Al Zayani. Al Khaldia Youth Society is organizing the remote conference which will shed light on the economic outlook and the impact of countries’ efforts on economic recovery in the region. Abimael Guzman, the founder of the Peruvian rebel group Shining Path, known as ‘Sendero Luminoso’ in Spanish, died in prison on Saturday, according to the country’s National Penitentiary Institute. He was 86. A Maoist rebel group, Shining Path was active in the 1980s and 1990s, spreading terror in the country through a bombing campaign that targeted buildings and infrastructure such as electricity towers. New York : To mark the 20th anniversary of 9/11, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul signed three pieces of legislation aimed at helping World Trade Center first responders apply for benefits, her office said in a news statement Saturday afternoon. “The bills make it easier for WTC first responders to apply for WTC benefits, by both expanding the criteria for defining WTC first responders and allowing online submissions of notice that members of a retirement system participated in WTC rescue, recovery, or cleanup operations,” according to the statement. US : President Biden and first lady Jill Biden made an unannounced stop at the Shanksville Volunteer Fire Department after participating in a wreath-laying ceremony at the United 93 memorial. There were some cheers as the President stepped out of the motorcade. The President met with dozens of people at the firehouse, which was set up to serve hot dogs and hamburgers.

UK : Queen Elizabeth II of Britain said Saturday that her prayers were with the survivors and victims on the 20th anniversary of the September 11 terror attacks. In a message to President Joe Biden, she said, “my thoughts and prayers — and those of my family and the entire nation — remain with the victims, survivors and families affected, as well as the first responders and rescue workers called to duty.” Sixty-seven British nationals were among the 2,977 people who were killed 20 years ago in the single largest loss of life caused by a foreign attack on U.S. soil.

Bahrain : Member of the Representatives Council, MP Dr. Abdulla Al-Thawadi, has stated that His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s issuance of Decree-Law 24/2021, amending Article (13) of Law 18/2017 on penalties and alternative measures reflects the progress of Bahrain’s legislation and laws, being the first Arab country to allow alternative sentencing to ensure the reintegration of the convicts into society in return for specific conditions aimed at achieving the interests of the convicts and society. Manama : Shura Council member, Dr. Mansour Mohammed Sarhan praised the issuance of the Decree-Law amending the alternative penalties law which enables the competent party at the Interior Ministry to request the judge to replace the original sentence before the start of its execution with an alternative penalty. Washington: US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry will travel to India from September 12-14 “to discuss efforts to raise global climate ambition and speed India’s clean energy transition,” the State Department said on Friday. On his visit, Kerry will meet with his counterparts in the Indian government and private sector leaders, the department said in a statement. Kerry is laying groundwork for US participation in the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties, or COP26, which will be held in Glasgow on October 31-November 12.
