Bahrain : Bahrain’s Ministry of Finance and National Economy today reported its Biannual Financial Report 2021 for the period ending 30 June. There were several key highlights. During the first half of 2021, net government revenues increased by 23% YoY to BHD 119 million. This was primarily due to a 33% increase in oil revenues caused by higher oil prices, while non-oil revenues increased by 4% YoY. KABUL :  Thousands of civilians desperate to flee Afghanistan thronged Kabul airport on Monday after the Taliban seized the capital, prompting the United States to suspend evacuations as it came under mounting criticism at home over its pullout. Crowds converged on the airport seeking to escape, including some clinging to a U.S. military transport plane as it taxied on the runway, according to footage posted by private Afghan broadcaster Tolo news. Tokyo :  Japan’s coronavirus state of emergency will continue through Sept. 12 rather than finishing at the end of this month as initially planned, the government decided Monday. With the virus continuing to spread in the country, the state of emergency for Tokyo, Osaka, Okinawa, and three other regions which began in July will be extended and expanded, reports AP. The measures were enforced throughout the recently concluded Tokyo Olympics, which took place with no spectators from the general public at many events. Amman :  Bahrain bagged the gold medal in the Arab Table Tennis Championship, currently held in Amman, Jordan. Mariam Al’ali and Amrita Amit outclassed Jordan (3/0) in the table tennis women’s doubles, followed by Egypt and Qatar. Bahrain brings its tally in the championship to one gold medal, one bronze and two silver. The national teams are expected to boost their tally as Mohammed Abbas and Elyas Al Yasi qualified to the  table tennis men’s doubles. Bahrain :  The Central Bank of Bahrain announced that the monthly issue of the Sukuk Al-Salam Islamic securities, has been oversubscribed by 407%. Subscriptions worth BD 175.217 million were received for the BD 43 million issue, which carries a maturity of 91 days. The expected return on the issue, which begins on August 18 and matures on November 17, is 1.50% compared to 1.45% of the previous issue on July 14. The Sukuk Al-Salam are issued by the CBB on behalf of the Government of Bahrain. This is issue No.244 (BH000107S864) of the short-term Sukuk Al-Salam series.

Berlin : Following the rapid Taliban takeover of Afghanistan, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas admitted on Monday that “the German government, the intelligence services, the international community – we misjudged the situation.” The Taliban seized control of the country on Sunday after taking wide swathes of territory in a matter of days, said dpa international.
