DUBAI : Emirates airline said a flight to Kabul on Sunday was diverted due to the temporary closure of the runway at the airport, while fellow Dubai state-owned carrier flydubai suspended services. Bahrain : Industry, Commerce and Tourism Minister, Zayed bin Rashid Al-Zayani, today received the outgoing Omani Ambassador to Bahrain and Dean of Diplomatic Corps in the kingdom, Abdulla bin Rashid bin Ali Al-Mudailawi. Bahrain : Education Minister Dr. Majid bin Ali Al Nuaimi, received the Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy in Bahrain, Margaret Nardi. They discussed areas of cooperation between the two countries in education, higher education and teacher training. The meeting reviewed hosting a number of academic programs that are consistent with the programs that will be offered at Isa Al Kabeer’s “Al Hidaya Alkhalifia” University. Lebanon : At least 20 people were killed and 79 others injured while a fuel tank exploded in Lebanon’s northern region of Akkar. UK : Department of Health announced on Sunday , all 16- and 17-year-olds in England are to be offered a first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine by Monday 23 August. Sajid Javid, the health secretary said the date would give teenagers two weeks to build up immunity before school starts again in September. Invites are also being sent out in Wales and older teenagers in Northern Ireland can use walk-in centres. In Scotland, older teens can register their interest online. Berlin : Germany is forecast to record its biggest rise in greenhouse gas emissions since 1990 this year as the economy rebounds from the pandemic-related downturn, according to a report by an environmental thinktank. Berlin-based Agora Energiewende said the country’s emissions would probably rise by the equivalent of 47m tons of carbon dioxide. The increase means Germany’s emissions will be about 37% lower than in 1990. It had aimed to cut emissions by 40% by 2020, and met the target last year but only due to the economic downturn.
