LOS ANGELES : Twitter users were greeted early Saturday with an ultimatum from the social media app: Subscribe to the platform’s new premium service or lose a popular account security feature. A pop-up message warned users they will lose the ability to secure their accounts via text message two-factor authentication unless they pay $8 a month to subscribe to Twitter Blue. The message said that starting March 19, users who don’t subscribe will be locked out of their accounts until they remove the security feature.

Ankara, : The total number of people in Türkiye killed in the devastating earthquake has reached 40,642, the disaster authority AFAD has said. Several thousand more died in neighbouring Syria. Later on Saturday, a 5.3-magnitude earthquake shook south-eastern Türkiye, in the Kahramanmaraş area, which was affected by the initial quakes, dpa reported. Manama : The National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD), announced that the Labour Fund (Tamkeen) has supported the National Afforestation Campaign (Forever Green), by providing 796 seedlings of Hibiscus tiliaceus trees and Bougainvillea trees, which were planted today along the December 16 Avenue in the Southern Governorate. MEMPHIS : Five former Memphis police officers pleaded not guilty Friday to second-degree murder and other charges in the violent arrest and death of Tyre Nichols, with his mother saying afterward that none of them would look her in the eye in court.
