A businessman and a lawyer have been sentenced to three months in jail for violating the mandatory home quarantine which was imposed to combat the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

The Lower Criminal Court ordered the first defendant to stay under house arrest and the second to be deported after serving the jail term said Advocate General Adnan Al-Wadai.

The Directorate of Public Health said that a specialized doctor took samples from the defendants who arrived from an infected country and told them to observe a mandatory 14-day mandatory home quarantine in compliance with the precautionary measures.

The businessmen violated the mandatory home quarantine and headed to Bahrain International Airport while the lawyer went to the courts complex and started her work by attending sessions, as evidenced by the court records and security footage of the courtroom.

The Public Prosecution launched an inquiry and heard the testimony of doctors who screened the defendants on their arrival in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

It also interrogated the defendants, ordered them to stay under house arrest, and referred them to the Criminal Court, which convicted them of the charges attributed to them.
