    ‘Bakod’ ng China sa Scarborough, inalis ng Philippine Coast Guard

    Makaraan magpalabas ang Malacañang ng Presidential Instruction, matagumpay na tinanggal ng Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) ang floating barrier na hinihinalang inilagay ng China sa may Scarbo­rough Shoal.

    “The barrier posed a hazard to navigation, a clear violation of international law,” ayon kay PCG spokesman Commodore Jay Tarriela.

    Bukod dito, balakid rin ito sa kabuhayan ng mga Pilipinong mangingisda na umaasa sa mga huli nila sa Bajo de Masinloc (Scarborough shoal), na importanteng parte ng teritoryo ng Pilipinas.

    Ipinaliwanag ng PCG na idineklara ng 2016 Arbitral Award ang BDM na tradisyunal na ‘fishing ground’ ng mga Pilipino, kaya anumang obstruksyon na ilalagay dito ay lumalabag sa naturang international law.

    Tinatayang nasa 300 metro ang haba ng hilera ng mga boya.

    Sa video na ipinost ng PCG, makikita na may pinutol silang lubid sa ilalim ng tubig na nakakonekta sa hilera ng mga boya.

    “The PCG remains committed to upholding international law, safeguarding the welfare of Filipino fisherfolk, and protecting the rights of the Philippines in its territorial waters,” dagdag ni Tarriela.
