Munich: Bavarian Premier Markus Soeder declared on Tuesday that his state would be open again for tourists this month amid hopes that the worst of the coronavirus pandemic might be over for Germany, the Deutsche Presse Agentur (DPA) reported. Holidays in Bavaria, which is a popular destination for travellers not just from Germany but around the world, would be possible again from May 21 in regions with low infection numbers, Soeder said. Bavaria’s decision came amid signs that the number of new infections across Germany has been falling after a protracted lockdown.
Berlin, along with several states including Bavaria, is also moving to provide the fully vaccinated and those who have recovered with greater freedom from the pandemic rules. Soeder said hotels, vacation apartments and campsites in districts and metropolitan areas with a stable seven-day incidence of less than 100 cases per 100,000 residents would be allowed to reopen. At the same time, outdoor restaurants, theatres, concert halls, opera houses and cinemas will be allowed to reopen from next Monday in areas with a stable seven-day incidence below 100. But several anti-coronavirus measures are to remain in place, Soeder said. They include ending outdoor restaurant trade at 10 pm (2000 GMT), as well the continuation of mask-and-testing rules.
