The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Superintendent of Customs along with one more person from Bihar in a bribery case, officials said.
According to the FIR, both accused demanded a bribe of Rs 90,000, which was 30 per cent of the seizure value of goods (Rs 3 lakh), in exchange for dismissing the case and releasing the complainant’s seized vehicle.
The seizure was made by the Motihari Customs office on January 31, 2021.
After receiving the information, the CBI laid a trap and arrested both the accused while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from the complainant.
“Searches were conducted at the premises of the accused, which led to the recovery of some incriminating documents. The arrested accused were produced today [Wednesday] before the court in Patna and were remanded in judicial custody,” said CBI Spokesperson RC Joshi.
