    Decree-law expanding alternative justice praised

    Bahrain :   The Shura Council’s Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security lauded the praised the issuance of Decree-Law 24/2021 by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa amending article 13 of law 18/2017 on alternative penalties and measures.

    Chaired by Shura Council member Youssef bin Ahmed Al Ghatam, the committee said that the amended law would further bolster justice and human rights, in accordance with HM the King’s humanitarian vision.

    It said that Decree-Law amending the alternative penalties law which enables the competent party at the Interior Ministry to request the judge to replace the original sentence before the start of its execution with an alternative penalty.

    In  statement today, the committee lauded the pioneering role of the Government,  led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

    It noted the Government’s keenness on implementing programmes and projects that support democratic life and enhance Bahrain’s regional and international standing as an advanced model in terms of modern laws aimed to promote reform, integrate convicts into society and give them the opportunity to serve their country.
