Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani, participated today in the virtual Donors Conference for Yemen 2020, which was hosted by the brotherly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in partnership with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
The conference took place under the presidency of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah Al Saud, and with the participation of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, the Prime Minister of Yemen, Maeen Abdulmalik, the Advisor at the Royal Court and Supervisor General of King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Rabiah, and the Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Mark Lowcock.
The Conference was also attended by a number of foreign ministers, senior officials and representatives of countries and specialized international organizations.
Addressing the conference, the Foreign Minister expressed his outmost thanks and appreciation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its tireless efforts to help our brothers in Yemen in restoring the legitimate authority of the Yemeni state, achieve security and stability throughout the country, and provide all forms of humanitarian aid, stressing that the initiative to hold this important international conference reflects the ongoing efforts of the Kingdom to support Yemen and its people.
The minister also underlined the Kingdom of Bahrain’s appreciation and support for the ongoing efforts of the United Nations to establish peace and security in Yemen, highlighting the call of the United Nations Secretary-General, Mr. António Guterres, for a global ceasefire so as to dedicate all international efforts to combat the coronavirus, the call that received an immediate response from the Arab Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen, which declared a comprehensive ceasefire. He added that the initiative did not receive any response from the Houthis, rather, they continued their violations and breached the ceasefire and refused to cooperate with the international humanitarian efforts to confront the spread of the coronavirus, despite the seriousness of the health situation and the weak health infrastructure in Yemen, which require urgent help from the international community.
The Foreign Minister also reaffirmed Bahrain’s support for the efforts of the Special Envoy for Yemen, Mr. Martin Griffiths, and the importance of a political solution to the crisis in Yemen in accordance with the adopted principles, stressing that the rebel Houthi movement must realize that there is no solution to the conflict in Yemen except through yielding to the international legitimacy and implementing its obligations, so that the brotherly people of Yemen can, once again, experience the security and stability they deserve.
