Dr Nayef Falah M. Al Hajraf, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), stressed the importance of the Yemeni consultations under the patronage of the GCC in supporting Yemen and the brotherly Yemeni people to end the conflict and achieve security and stability in Yemen.

Dr Al Hajraf reiterated the Council’s support for Yemen and the Yemeni people, in light of the constitutional legitimacy and through a political solution based on the three references represented in the GCC initiative and its Executive Mechanism, the outcomes of the Yemeni National Dialogue Conference (NDC) and the Security Council resolution 2216.

HE the Secretary General’s statements came as he met with HE Mr. Maeen Abdulmalik Saeed, Prime Minister of Yemen, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat in Riyadh today (April 4, 2022), in the presence of the Government of Competencies members, who are participating in the Yemeni consultations under the patronage of the GCC.

The meeting discussed the efforts and initiatives of the GCC countries aimed at achieving security, stability and peace in Yemen, in light of the Yemeni consultations hosted by the General Secretariat from March 29, 2022, to April 7, 2022. The UN efforts to end the conflict, represented by the truce announced by Mr. Hans Grundberg, UN Special Envoy to Yemen, were also reviewed during the meeting.

HE the Secretary-General expressed gratitude and appreciation for the quick response of the leadership of the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen to his call to stop military operations inside Yemen, with the aim of creating the appropriate conditions for the success of the Yemeni consultations.

Additionally, Dr Al Hajraf underlined the importance of building on the outcomes of the efforts exerted during the consultations, which reflect the GCC, regional and international keenness to support Yemen and achieve everything that would end the conflict and advance the development, relief and economic fields, in accordance with the aspirations of the brotherly Yemeni people.
