    Health Minister receives WHO delegation

    Bahrain: Minister of Health, Dr. Jalila bint Al-Sayed Jawad Hassan, has asserted continuous cooperation with the World Health Organisation (WHO)’s programmes to achieve the comprehensive health and development goals. She described the health achievements brought about by the Kingdom of Bahrain as the result of the great support accorded to the health sector by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and continuous follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

    The Health Minister was speaking as she received today Dr. Samar Al-Feqi, an expert from WHO, on the occasion of her visit to the kingdom to follow up on the Health Cities project. The meeting was attended by Health Ministry Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health Dr. Meriam Al Hajeri and WHQ representatives in the Kingdom of Bahrain Dr. Tasnim Atatra.

    During the meeting, the Minister of Health affirmed the unflinching commitment to providing a sustainable and comprehensive health environment for all. She pointed out Bahrain’s keenness to share with the international community its diverse experiences to promote the health sector and ensure its sustainability, good services and capability to cope with the health developments.

    The Minister of Health expressed thanks and appreciation for continuous support from WHO which contributed to the implementation of many joint health projects and initiatives. She commended the efforts of the governors and the executive committees for their dedicated efforts to boost health in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

    For her part, Dr. Meriam Al Hajeri expressed sincere thanks to Dr. Samar Al-Feqi for giving a presentation on the health-promoting universities within the induction meeting held in cooperation with the Higher Education Council at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland-Bahrain (RCSI-Bahrain) on the implementation of the WHO’s initiative which aims to create health universities that contribute to providing an organizational learning environment that promotes the health and well-being of the society.

    Dr. Samar Al-Feqi commended Bahrain’s distinguished experiences at all levels and its success in being one of the first countries to obtain the health cities credits after meeting all required standards in this field. She stressed continuous cooperation and joint coordination to achieve the desired health and development goals.

    For her part, Dr. Tasnim Atatra affirmed that the pioneering models of the health cities in the Kingdom of Bahrain represent an interactive model for implementing development goals in a holistic manner and with the effective contribution of all members of the society. She also expressed her thanks to the Ministry of Health for the unlimited support to the models in cooperation with the governorates and relevant parties.

    The meeting spotlighted issues of common concern and ways of activating many health programmes in the upcoming phase.
