Bahrain : HM the King’s Representative for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs, HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, has extended congratulations to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, on the kingdom’s success in winning the silver medal of the women’s 10,000m race, within Tokyo Olympics 2020.
HH Shaikh Nasser indicated that the accomplishment embodies the constant support enjoyed by the youth and sports movement from HM the King and HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
HH Shaikh Nasser also congratulated the First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, General Sports Authority Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee President, HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, for his unwavering support and interest, which contributed to attaining such an honourable Olympic achievement that confirms the distinguished status of the Bahraini sport.
HH Shaikh Nasser commended the tremendous efforts exerted by runner Kalkidan Gezahegne, and her outstanding performance throughout the race, which enabled her to clinch the silver medal.
It is to be noted that the Bahraini athlete, Kalkidan Gezahegne, today grabbed the silver medal of the women’s 10,000m race, within Tokyo Olympics 2020’s athletics competition.
Gezahegne clocked 29:18.56, behind gold-medallist, Dutchwoman Sifan Hassan, who clocked 29:55.32, and in front of third-placed, Ethiopian athlete, Letesenbet Gidey, who finished the race in 30:72.01.
