Manama : His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, today attended the fourth edition of the Bahrain International Trophy, held at the Rashid Equestrian and Horse Racing Club.
His Royal Highness commended Bahrain’s competitive elements and strong capabilities that have enabled it to attract regional and international sporting events, which reflect the visions and aspirations of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
His Royal Highness affirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain has become a leading destination for staging sporting events, demonstrated in the success of the Bahrain International Trophy, which has cemented the Kingdom’s global position in the field of international sports.
With the participation of owners, trainers, jockeys and horses from renown international stables, His Royal Highness commended the progress made in the sport of horse racing and its continuous achievements, indicating that the attendance from a wide spectrum of horse racing professionals at the race reflects the remarkable progress made by the Rashid Equestrian and Horse Racing Club in positioning Bahrain as a regional hub for horse racing.
His Royal Highness noted that the positive response to hosting this sporting event reflects the Kingdom of Bahrain’s world class facilities and capacity to host international races.
His Royal Highness highlighted the importance of continuing to implement the plans and programmes set to develop horse racing in order to achieve the desired goals. His Royal Highness expressed his desire to host more races and world championships that establish Bahrain as a renowned destination for horse races.
His Royal Highness noted the organisation and coordination of the fourth edition of the Bahrain International Trophy, welcoming the wide variety of participants at the race.
His Royal Highness congratulated the winners and wished the rest of the participants best of luck in future races.
His Royal Highness presented the Bahrain International Trophy to the winner, Saeed bin Suroor, after his horse “Dubai Future” of the Godolphin Stable from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) won first place in the eighth and main race, while “Passion and Glory” came in second place, with “Riocorvo” and “Magny Cours” coming in third and fourth places, respectively.
For his part, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister stressed the High Committee’s ongoing commitment to realising its forward-looking goals in line with the aspirations of His Majesty the King and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, ensuring the Kingdom remains a leading destination for horse-racing. In this regard, HH Shaikh Isa bin Salman noted that the Bahrain International Trophy has cemented its position as one of the most anticipated races in the final phase of the season, noting the success of the fourth edition.
With the growing demand in the racing community, His Highness outlined the High Committee’s ambition to build on this success and continue to strengthen the Kingdom’s role as a home for different international races.
The race was also attended by the His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, the Chairman of the Rashid Equestrian and Horse Racing Club High Committee, His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, as well as a number senior officials, representatives of sponsors and a large audience of international horse racing fans.
The winners of the other cups were also presented with trophies, the Chief Executive of the EDB, Khalid Ebrahim Humaidan, presented the second race cup to Abdullah Fawzi Nass, while the EDB Executive Director of Corporate Services, Linda Janahi, presented the first race cup to the assistant of the trainer, Raed Al Buainain.
The Chairman of Batelco’s Board of Directors, Shaikh Abdullah bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, presented the Batelco Cup for the fifth race to the winning jockey, Edinson Rodrigues, while the Chief Executive Officer of Batelco, Mikkel Vinter presented the Batelco Cup for the sixth race to the winning jockey Harry Davis.
The Chief Executive Officer of Bapco, Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery, presented the Bapco Cup for the fourth race to the winner Haider Ebrahim, while the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bapco, Abdulla Jehad Al Zain, presented the Bapco Cup for the seventh race to the winning jockey Paul Hangan.
There were seven races held for the Batelco, Bapco and the Economic Development Board cups, the sponsors of the international race, and the results were as follows:
The first race was held for the Economic Development Board Cup, which is competed by purebred Bahraini Arabian horses known as WAHO at a distance of 1200 meters.
“Al Saqlawy 1841” of the Riffa Stable, trained by Yousif Alboainain and jockeyed by Hussein Asghar ranked first, followed by “Al Krush 1823” from the Sakhir stables, trained by Jaafar Marzooq and jockeyed by Abdullah Faisal in second place. “Al Shawaf 1817” of the Riffa Stable, trained by Yousif Alboainain and jockeyed by Adnan Jaffar came in third, while “Mlolshan 1865” of Victorious Stable, trained by Yousif Taher and the jockeyed by Hussain Makki, came in fourth.
The second race was held for the Economic Development Board Cup for locally bred horses at a distance of 1800 meters. “Living Art”, owned by Abdulla Sami Nass, trained by Hesham Al Haddad and jockey Stephane Ladjadj, won the race, followed by “Shaw wash” of the Al Nuwayef Stables, trained by Alan Smith and jockeyed by Edinson Rodriguez in second place. “Lahouq”, owned by Rashid Racing Stable, trained by Yousif Alboainain and jockeyed by Marcialis Jaures came in third, and “Hajeer” owned by His Highness Shaikh Hamad bin Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa, trained by Haider Ebrahim and jockeyed by Abdulla Faisal, came in fourth place.
Race three was held for locally bred horses at a distance of 2200 meters, in which mare “Mugheerah” from the Al-Nayefaat stable, trained by Abdullah Kuwaiti and ridden by Jerome Mottard, clinched victory.
“El Professor” from the Al Bastaki Racing stables, trained by Salahuddin Al Bastaki and ridden by Rosie Jessop, came in second place.
“Sinjar” from the Al Nuwayef Racing stables, trained by Abdulla Kuwaiti and ridden by Salem Al Ajmi, came in third place.
“Asalah” from the Al Bastaki Racing stables, trained by Fawzi Nass and ridden by Hussain Makki, came in fourth place.
Race four was held as part of the Bapco Cup for the domestic class 1 – grade 3 category, at a distance of 1200 meters, in which “Khazzama” owned by HH Sh Hamad bin Adulla bin Isa Al Khalifa, trained by Haidar Ebrahim and ridden by Abdulla Faisal, won the first place.
“Toulouse Le Plot” from the Victorious Stables, trained by A.M Smith and ridden by Edinson Rodriguez, came in second place.
“Qamari” from the Al Afoor Racing, trained by Mohammed Hassan and ridden by Alberto Sanna, came in third place.
“Dirab” from the Ras Ruman Syndicate stables, trained by Taleb Ali and ridden by Robert Tart, came in fourth place.
Race five was also held as part of the Batelco Cup, for 1000 meters, Class 1 – Domestic grade 2 imported, in which “Roman River” owned by M and E Racing, trained by A. M. Smith and ridden by Edinson Rodriguez came in first place.
“Ocean Star” from Al Afoor Racing, trained by Mohammed Hassan and ridden by Alberto Sanna, came in second place.
“First Edition” from Al Mooriyat Racing, trained by A.M. Smith and ridden by Paul Hanagan, came in third place.
“Dark Shadow” from Al Mohamediya Racing, trained by Osama Hashim and ridden by Liam Keniry, came in fourth place.
Race six was held for the Batelco Cup and competed by horses of all classes (imported) at 2400 meters, in which “Rayounpour” from Al Adiyat Racing, trained by A.M. Smith and ridden by Harry Davies, won first place.
“Recovery Run” from the Al Adiyat Racing, trained by A. M. Smith and ridden by Payl Hanagan, came in second place.
“Tall Order” from the Al Mallah Syndicate, trained by A. Jaleel Al Mallah and ridden by Andrew Breslin, came in third place.
“Encourage” from the Al Mohamediya Racing, trained by Hesham Al Hadda and ridden by Liam Keniry, came in fourth place.
Race seven, as part of the Bapco Cup, competed by imported handicap at 1600 meters, was won by “Giustino” from Al Adiyat Racing, trained by A. M. Smith and ridden by Paul Hanagan.
“Maystar” from Al Afoo Racing, trained by Mohammed Hassan and ridden by Alberto Sanna, came in second place.
“Ecosystem” from MKAR Racing, trained by Haidar Ebrahim and ridden by Andrea Atzeni, came in third place.
“Gateway”, owned by Mustafa Jaffer Ali Omran, trained by Osama Hashim and ridden by Jerome Moutard, came in fourth place.
