Bahrain : Interior Minister, General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, today delivered the following speech marking the International Anti-Corruption Day:
“Bahrain’s celebration of the International Anti-Corruption Day on December 9 affirms its rejection and fighting of the crime for being a hinder against sustainable development and goes against the future of communities and economies globally. In addition, the Day is an occasion to remind all of their rights and to fight corruption.
“The Day represents an international dedication to achieving economic recovery through integrity standards; thus, the Kingdom of Bahrain has been pioneering in promoting international cooperation to combat corruption. It renews its commitment to fight corruption to meet national strategies and international conventions, especially the United Nations Convention against Corruption.
“The reform project of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa has created a foundation that reflects Bahrain’s dedication to moving ahead with its efforts to reinforce awareness and integrity. In addition to promoting more open and transparent practices within a comprehensive system to be protected from corruption. The dedication of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to protect public money with integrity, trustworthy and responsible approach, and promoting the culture of integrity are highly valued.
“Out of the understanding that transparency and integrity are ethical values to fight corruption, the Kingdom of Bahrain had taken proactive and preventative methods to fight corruption through many laws and reinforcement of community partnership through community presence.
“The General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security dealt with 96 embezzlement, bribery and exploitation of power cases. In addition to three violations referred from the Cabinet mentioned in the National Audit Office report. Furthermore, the awareness role continues through efforts to promote integrity and transparency by national campaigns and various other activities to enhance the national corruption fighting level according to international standards.
“Efforts continue to promote international cooperation to meet the UN agreement and build strong relations with international partners. In addition to reinforcing ties with international partners and the operations of regional and international authorities, along with learning new expertise and building organisational capabilities.
“Finally, I hail the anti-corruption efforts of all concerned authorities and ministries for their cooperation and the valuable cooperation and coordination initiatives to promote transparency and integrity.
“May Allah the Almighty protect Bahrain and blesses it with security and stability under the leadership of HM the King.”
