The Indian School Bahrain (ISB) celebrated the 6th International Yoga Day with great fervour and enthusiasm on Sunday, June 21, 2020 with children demonstrating Yoga online.
Owing to the COVID-19 pandemic guidelines, students stayed indoors and posted online their Yoga practice which will be uploaded on the school website.
Various yoga postures, which are helpful in healing the body and the mind, were performed. The participants were introduced to Yogasanas, Pranayama, and Meditation.
Keeping with the concerns related to COVID-19, the theme for this year’s Yoga Day was ‘Yoga at home; Yoga with your family’. ISB Physical Education Teacher R. Chinnasamy gave demonstrations on various yoga asanas.
“Yoga is a way of living that aims towards a healthy mind in a healthy body”, he said.
Emphasising the importance of Yoga, ISB Chairman Prince S Natarajan said: “In these troubled times of corona pandemic, all of us need to improve our immunity and for this Yoga is one of the most effective tools. We all should make Yoga a part of our lifestyle”.
“Yoga is a treasure that has been inherited and must now be imparted for the benefit and welfare of future generations to come”, said ISB Secretary Saji Antony.
“Yoga brings together mind, body and breath to produce perfect balance within us. In today’s rushed lifestyle, Yoga can be the perfect addition to school curriculum as it can help children keep their minds calm and grow holistically” said Principal VR Palaniswamy.
“Yoga teaches children how to correctly cope with the stress, manage it, and stay productive. This is because the children learn how to breathe deeply and be more mindful”, said ISB Riffa Campus Principal Pamela Xavier.
