Manama: Bahrain Golf Association (BGA) has announced that the 13th King Hamad International Golf Cup Championship will be held from November 24 to 27 under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. The royal patronage aims to encourage holding international championships in the Kingdom of Bahrain and improve the level of golfers to bring about distinguished achievements and further promote the kingdom’s status in Arab and international gatherings.
BGA has started preparations for the event in coordination with the competent authorities to ensure the success of the championship. Arab, Asian and European federations have been contacted to unveil the names of players who will participate and compete for the trophy. Sponsored by Batelco since its inception in 2007, the tournament has succeeded in attracting famous professional golfers who participated in European and Asian championships. Also, it has become one of the tourism investment elements in the sports field.
The championship was postponed last year because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. BGA expressed readiness to ensure compliance with all precautionary measures put in place by the national taskforce for individual championships. Sponsors of the championship also include Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco), Aluminum Bahrain (Alba), Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC), Bahrain National Gas Company (Banagas), Ithmaar Bank, Gulf Commercial Bank, the Economic Development Board (EDB) and Steel Holding.
