The World Health Organization (WHO) cautioned on Saturday that there is no proof that one can get infected with COVID-19 by touching surfaces where the virus sticks around, such as door handles and keyboards.
Even though it is not proven it is recommended to disinfect objects, according to guidelines issued by the UN agency.
A study showed that the virus could survive on the outside of a medical face mask for up to 1 week.
WHO also noted that the studies about the ability of the coronavirus to survive should be viewed with some doubt.
A study showed that the virus can survive on stainless steel and plastic for 4 days and in glass for 2 days and on fabric and wood for 1 day.
Another study revealed that it can survive on copper for 4 hours and on cardboard for 24 hours and on plastic and stainless steel for 72 hours.
Even though such transmission can’t be ruled as several cases have been recorded of people catching the virus from a surface.
