London : Minister of Oil and Environment, Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, Dr. Mohamed bin Mubarak bin Daina, met the Minister at the Cabinet Office and President of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP 26), Alok Sharma, during his visit to the United Kingdom.

Dr. Bin Daina affirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s commitment to dedicating the necessary resources and exchanging knowledge and technical expertise through collaborative joint approaches to step up action on climate change and to build capacity in pursuit of climate security and building a sustainable and resilient future.

He highlighted the Kingdom’s wide-ranging efforts to meet its commitments to achieving Net-Zero emissions by 2060 and reducing carbon emissions by 30% by 2035 through decarbonisation and efficiency initiatives that include the doubling of afforestation in the Kingdom, the quadrupling of mangrove trees, the doubling of renewable energy targets, increasing energy efficiency and direct investment in carbon capture technologies.

The two sides discussed areas of collaboration and joint efforts that focus on the promotion of environmental protection and combatting the global impacts of climate change, in addition to the adoption of a circular carbon economy that is anchored on sustainable and climate-neutral growth.

Dr. Bin Daina also shared the Kingdom’s readiness for fruitful participation at the upcoming 27th session of the annual Conference of the Parties (COP 27), which is scheduled to take place in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, in November this year.
