Optional home self-isolation for asymptomatic COVID-19 cases

All the asymptomatic active COVID-19 cases under the age of 60 will now have the option to self-isolate at home from tomorrow.

“All services provided and guidelines to be followed will be in line with standards approved by the World Health Organization,” HE Dr. Shaikh Mohammed said.

All the positive cases will be directed to the Shamel Field Hospital (Comprehensive Disability Center) for triaging and assessment.

Patients who meet the set criteria and opt to self-isolate at home will be issued an electronic bracelet and receive the needed medical supplies for the isolation period. This will include masks, sterile gloves, and basic medications if required.

All the asymptomatic cases under home self-isolation will be monitored daily by health professionals and the “BeAware Bahrain” app.

The home self-isolation period is 14 days and a ‘Self-Isolation Exit Test Appointment’ will be required in order for patients to be officially discharged.

So far the country has conducted over 350,000 tests, which is among the highest when looking at the country’s population.

An increase in coronavirus cases among the Bahrainis was noticed by the MOH in recent days.

“The reasons for the increase in the number of cases among the citizens are due to family and social gatherings during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr,” said Dr. Waleed Khalifa Al Manea, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in a press conference.
