Saudi Arabia has recorded 3,334 violations in a single day during the nationwide curfew to curb the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).
Riyadh tops with 1,845 violations, accompanied by the holy city of Mecca with 281 and the Eastern Province with 277, Sabq reported.
The officials said street vendors had been reported doing business in several places. “We confirm that gatherings of all their forms are prohibited,” Interior Ministry spokesman Lt. Col. Talal Al Shalhoub, according to SPA.
Saudi Arabia so far reported 52,016 coronavirus cases, including 302 fatalities.
Violations of the curfew are punishable in the kingdom by a fine of 10,000 Riyals and that doubles in case of repetition. The repeat violators also face up to 20 days in prison.
Saudi Arabia will enforce a countrywide 24-hour curfew during the five-day Eid al-Fitr holiday. The curfew will apply from May 23-May 27 following the end of the fasting month of Ramadan.
