Manama : Speaker of the Council of Representatives, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Delegation, Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, today chaired a meeting with diplomatic missions.
Shura Council Chairman, Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh was present.
The meeting was devoted to reviewing the Kingdom’s preparations to host the 146th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and its related meetings on March 11-15.
Al Musallam welcomed the ambassadors to the “House of the People”, which is one of the fruits of the pioneering Reform Project, launched by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa about two decades ago, within the state of law and institutions, which is based on solid constitutional foundations, paving the way for steadily progressing democratic process that has earned the kingdom local and international acclaim.
He asserted that the kingdom’s hosting of the 146th IPU Assembly is a global vote of confidence in the kingdom’s distinguished ability to organize mega global conferences and events.
He indicated that the kingdom’s legislative branch has, in cooperation with the government, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and the relevant national institutions, taken all necessary measures and steps to host the largest global parliamentary gathering.
In this regard, he revealed that a national organizing committee, chaired the First Deputy Chairman of the Shura Council, Jamal Mohammed Fakhro, has been formed and all potentials have been harnessed to receive the representatives of 178 parliaments and ensure the success of IPU Assembly and its related meetings.
He expressed hope that the 146th IPU Assembly would unify the stances of world parliaments, to contribute to promoting global peace and security, as well as spread the values of tolerance and coexistence, towards a better world for everyone.
Shura Chairman expressed pride in the global trust in the kingdom’s ability to host the mega parliamentary gathering, confirming the prestigious status reached by the kingdom’s comprehensive development and democratic process, led by HM the King and supported by HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
He added that the global events will provide an opportunity for nearly 200 representatives of 178 parliaments to be informed closely about the kingdom and its pivotal role in disseminating the values of tolerance, coexistence and peace, in addition to its distinguished civilizational image.
He commended the pivotal role played by ambassadors of brotherly and friendly countries in coordinating with their countries’ parliaments to submit their ideas and visions regarding the theme of the Assembly focusing on spreading coexistence, and fraternity, as well as combating intolerance and hatred.
Heads of diplomatic missions to the kingdom commended the tremendous efforts exerted by Bahrain to host world parliaments.
They also praised the efforts being made by the organizing committee to prepare in advance for the mega parliamentary gathering, citing the availability of all the necessary information and data related to the 146th IPU Assembly and related meetings.
