Bahrain : Speaker of the Council of Representatives Fawzia bint Abdullah Zainal and Minister of Municipalities and Agriculture Affairs Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak inspected a number of development projects in Riffa and got informed about the final preparations for the temporary location of Riffa Central Market as the current one will witness a comprehensive revamp soon to meet the needs of citizens.
The Speaker of the Council of Representatives asserted the ongoing implementation of vital services projects under the comprehensive development march of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. She stressed keenness on achieving citizens’ aspirations, pointing out cooperation between the legislative branch and the government led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
For his part, the Minister of Municipalities and Agriculture Affairs said that in line with the directives of the government to provide the best services to citizens and residents, the ministry is keen to ensure that the markets revamp is consistent with their specificity. He pointed out that the facelift project of Riffa Central Market aims to develop the current building of the market over an area of 2,323 sqm, including the vegetable and fruit market, the fish and meat market, and the supply markets.
The minister valued the follow-up and support of the Speaker of the Council of Representatives to this project, noting that a temporary site for vendors has been prepared as a transitional period until the completion of the development work.
For his part, the Ministry of Municipalities and Agriculture Affairs Undersecretary for Municipal Affairs, Eng. Shaikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, said that the alternative location for the market, which covers an area of 1200 sqm, was carefully chosen by the ministry to ensure its proximity to the original one. He added the alternative market will feature the same number of stalls until the revamp work is completed.
