Nasser Sultan Al Suwaidi, CEO of the National Oil and Gas Authority (NOGA) congratulated Tatweer Petroleum, the upstream oil and gas operator in the Kingdom of Bahrain, a company under the umbrella of nogaholding, was awarded with Esri’s Special Achievement in Geographical Information System (SAG) Award on 13 July 2020 at the annual Esri User Conference.

The Company was selected from over 300,000 eligible candidates from around the world in recognition of their innovative application of mapping and analytics technology, as well as thought leadership in the field of Oil and Gas.

The SAG Awards are presented to show appreciation for organisations that have shown effective use of Geographical Information System (GIS) to understand complex data and meet global challenges. Through their unique approaches to geospatial science, users honored with the SAG Award demonstrate groundbreaking possibilities of GIS software.

On receiving the SAG Award, James Eastlack, Tatweer Petroleum CEO, praised the directives of Shaikh Mohamed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Oil, concerning Tatweer’s exemplary application of global standards in all modes of operation. “Receiving the SAG Award at an international level is a proud moment for our organization,” he said. “We at Tatweer Petroleum strive to remain in pace with technological advancements in the realm of GIS, which is a key factor in enhancing efficiency in operations. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the GIS team for their hard work that led to us being recognized with this prestigious award.”

This year, Esri moved its annual conference to a completely virtual format. The conference was the world’s largest virtual GIS event. Tatweer Petroleum was one of over 180 organizations to be nominated for the award in areas such as commercial industry, defense, transportation, nonprofit work, telecommunications, and government. Recipients of the award were selected by Esri and recognized during the event by Jack Dangermond, Esri founder and president.

On this occasion, Dangermond said, “Esri User Conference has always given our users an opportunity to share the ways they implement GIS and use it to improve their organizations. I am inspired by the amazing work our users are doing, and I am honored to present these awards to all the organizations recognized for their commitment to technological leadership in government, business, and nonprofit work.”

The Kingdom of Bahrain, represented by Tatweer Petroleum, received a number of awards at both regional and global levels in the field of GIS and Remote Sensing (RS). Tatweer Petroleum has long supported the GIS and RS community at a national level by hosting internal workshops and sponsoring events such as GIS Day 2019.
